Why go to the Caribbean Islands when you can go to Ganpatipule! This little tucked away beach is where the crystal blue seawater collides with fine white sand. Located in the Ratnagiri district, this little hamlet has retained its idyllic lifestyle in this 21st century. The Sayambhu Ganpati temple, from where the village derives its name, is the most famous tourist attraction here. The idol is supposedly 400 years old. You shouldn’t miss the Raigadh fort and the Raigadh lighthouse either, once you are here. This area also produces some of the best mangoes in the subcontinent so if you are travelling during summer, don’t miss those. Else, just relax under the rows of palm and coconut trees and enjoy the view.

This popular hill station has been made more famous by Indian film industry. Not only they shoot here a lot, it’s mentioned a lot as well. 625 meters above the sea level, the hill station provides a stunning view of Sahayadri hills. If you are looking to get away from the din and bustle of the urban life, you should choose the tranquil lakes and dams, instead of the more popular destinations. There are many options to choose from including Pawna Lake, Tungarli Dam, Valavan Lake and Tungarli Lake. The trekking enthusiasts will love the place as well, as the history buff will. There are multiple forts here, Tung, Lohagarh and Tilona to explore. Rajmachi Wildlife Sanctuary and Ryewood Park will compensate the nature lovers’ trip to this exotic vacation destination.

This is the closest to Mahabaleshwar, among all the options we present here. One can easily book hotels in Mahabaleshwar to stay and visit Chiplun for a day, coming back to the hotel by night. It’s located in the Ratnagiri district and has great connectivity, thanks to the Mumbai-Goa highway. Vashishti River flows by Chiplun and is a hugely popular tourist spot where you can go boating. The fact that this is not far from other weekend destinations near Mahabaleshwar makes this spot more popular. There is ample trekking opportunity near Chiplun and some forests as well. The Gowalkot Fort, built by Shivaji in 1670, is another tourist destination. The locals at Chiplun are rather friendly and make the tourist feel at home, easily.

For a history or religious buff, Jummar offers a plenty. There are forts, ancient caves and a perfect culmination of history and religion. Located in the Pune district of Maharashtra, this place is at the dizzying height of 2260 ft from the sea level.

Junnar has a rich history of, at least, a thousand years and was the capital of King Nahapan of the Shak dynasty and later, Maratha rule, Shivaji was born in this area. The Shivneri fort worked as a strategic control point for the location during the feudal ages. Junnar is the home of some of the most advanced cave tunnels in India with three distinct cave groups are interjoined here and each of them is sculpted with pictures on the walls. The Lenyadri caves are not connected, however, and this consists of 30 rock cut caves.

There is a great density of Indian Leopard population in the area as well.
